The Canon Hospice Health Hour began in March of 2006, with Sue May as the host. A joint radio project of the Akula Foundation and Canon Hospice to provide the community with the most updated and accurate health, mental health and community information in a talk radio format. The show is now airing from 3pm to 4pm on News Talk WRNO 99.5 FM New Orleans and simulcast on News Talk WBUV 104.9 FM in Biloxi and WJBO 1150 AM/97.7FM in Baton Rouge.

The show’s guests are members of the medical community (private physicians, mental health, and health related organizations), as well as, community organizations and authors. Pod casts of prior shows are available on both the Akula Foundation and Canon Hospice websites. Topics have included Eldercare legislation, Gender differences in brain processing of men and women, Lyme disease, Mindfulness, Yoga and Social Work programs. Authors have describing their books on topics such as the healing power of reminiscence, disaster response by nurses, recovery from grief, and spirituality. Medical topics have been presented on cancer, liver, gall bladder and adrenal gland functioning, sleep disturbance and other topics. A variety of mental health topics, including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and suicide have been covered. Community leaders have presented on a variety of topics from preparation of a will to child adoption processes.
